Thaddeus, a resident since 1992 who has lived on and visited Savary intermittently since 1976, also has an 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' attitude.

"I think regulation backfires," he said, noting the burst of activity that follows the threat of any rules.  "While I don't want every 50-foot lot on the island to be developed, I don't want that to be achieved by telling people they can't build on their lot."

Thaddeus runs an informative website about Savary (www.savary.ca)  that shows his affection for the place. He doesn't have blinders on, though  - he recognizes Savary has pressing issues, such as transportation.

But to Thaddeus, the answer is more communication, common sense and a commitment by people to fit their actions to Savary, not the other way around.

Tongue in cheek, he added: "My take on it is we're blessed with all this sand, so we can stick our head in it."
